Is Your Business Missing
Procedures?
«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»
You do use procedures for your business,
right? If you
don't, you have some work set out for you. To get started,
I want to be sure you're on the same page as me and
understand what a procedure is and does.
A procedure should always be written down in recorded some
way or another. On paper, or in a video, as long as it
exists somewhere besides in your head. It should be in a
step-by-step like guide so it can be accomplished by anyone
whether that be your employees or the future owner of your
company.
Many businesses don't know about procedures, maybe that's
why so many fail? So before you think creating them will
waste your time, think about how long you'd like your
business to last. Forever would be nice. Anything you do,
walking across the office in 15 steps to the printer,
chatting to a client, sending a fax, can all be made into
procedures, believe it or not. It will benefit not only
others, but will benefit yourself. You might find that
following the same procedure to the tee will make work
easier.
One benefit to following your own procedures is that you
won't accidentally forget an important step. Another
benefit is that you'll be able to have a better look at
each step you are doing, and you might even be able to weed
out any unnecessary steps and eliminate wasted time.
Do yourself a favor and train yourself to spot areas where
time is leaking. If the fax takes too long, maybe step X
should require an e-mail? Improving and making modification
to procedures is just as important as having them. Once
they are the structure of your business, changing the
procedures is making a change to your business.
One example is from my own business. Here's a procedure:
1. Make Video Course
2. Buy domain name
3. Buy website hosting
4. Add video course to website
5. Design a sales letter
6. Install payment processor for course
I made some changes to get reduce time, and not effect
sales:
1. Make video recording
2. Add video to CD
3. Add video to the disk manufacturing service
4. Provide product link to possible customers
The first procedure is for a downloadable product, the
second is a cd-rom product. Even though the cd product
can't be played by a customer immediately after ordering,
the number of sales weren't affected, and wasted time in
many areas was eliminated.
Try developing a few processes for your own business. If
you have staff, train them to follow them. Maybe then you
can escape your office for a change?

BIZ*TECH SAVVY SOLUTIONS

Screen Size
There are three options available when opening a window.
Minimized, which simply places it on your task bar - Normal,
which opens it in a reduced size - Maximized, which opens up
full size.
To select the option you wish, right click on the Icon on your
desktop that you wish to open full size, and select
"properties". Select the "Shortcut" Tab and find the "Run" box.
Click on the arrow to the right and you will find the three
choices available. To have your screen open full size, select
"Maximized".
Personally, I prefer them to open in a reduced size. You can
enlarge the size by placing your mouse on the corner(s) and
dragging it open to the size that you wish. I like this as I use
two screens and sometimes I want the window on one and sometimes
on the other. You cannot drag a maximized window from one
screen to the other, but you can if it is reduced.
