1.) A WORD FROM THE "EDITOR"
___________________

A Warm welcome to all our new subscribers.

Before I begin, I would like to Thank Sara Hardy
for her hard work on filling in for me as editor of
The OnLine Exchange these past 2 weeks.

For those of you who don't know. my name is Debbie Solomon,
and I am the editor of The OnLine Exchange. This ezine has been
in publication since 1999, starting out with 2 dozen subscribers.
We sure have grown over the past 6 years, now publishing to over
20,000 subscribers. Over the several months, I have decided to
hold back on publishing an editorial in each edition, and we were
doing an "Editor's Choice", which included a profile from one of our
fellow subscribers in each edition. Well, I think that platform has been
worn out, and I have been receiving emails asking me to start my
editorial again. So, in each edition, you will hear from me personally.
I will be asking for all of your input in various marketing areas so we
can all share our thoughts, opinions and ideas. And I hope to hear
from each and every one of you.

For this edition, however, I want to take the time to thank each and
every one of you who emailed me your best wishes. For those of you
who don't know, I am one of the victims of Hurricane Wilma. Though
myself and my family were kept out of harms way, the devastation
our community has faced is vast. Kids have been out of school for 2 weeks.
Trees, homes, fences and much more have been damaged. Many people
are still left without power, and many people are now homeless. I guess
you can see I am one of the lucky ones. But there is one thing in all of this
chaos I want to add. I am a single mom. Myself and my kids watched this
storm tear up our yard and all the yards and trees around us. As the storm
passed over us and the wind started to subside, I noticed some people come
out of their homes to see the damage Wilma has left us. As I ventured out,
I looked down the road to our entrance way of our community. The trees
have literally barricaded us in. There was an ambulance out on the street who
could get into the neighborhood. I started running towards the main road to
see if I could be of any assistance, and as I ran, other neighbors did so
too. Within a couple minutes there were over a dozen people moving tree limbs
and trees from one side of the entranceway to let the ambulance in. It took us
about 5 minutes to clear the way. We all then pitched in together and started moving
trees from the middle of the streets, walking house by house seeing if everyone was ok.
I have lived here for 11 years and never have I seen a community bond together in efforts
to help each other out. In days that followed we were all helping each other out.
Someone came by and dropped off ice to me. Another person saw me cleaning
my front yard one morning and offered me coffee she made on her grill. People around
us that we have taken for granted and never offered more than a wave and hello
were all joining together just out of kindness. Nothing more.

Does it really take a tragedy such as this to realize how much we have and how
much it all means? Do we really take for granted the things we have? How many
times have you walked out of your home and just give a smile, wave and hello
to a neighbor, not realizing that one day that same neighbor can be the one
who lends you that helping hand you so desperately need?

Sorry for such a long editorial this week. I guess I just had a lot to say.
Your thoughts and opinions are always welcome. You can email me personally
at: debbiesolomon@comcast.net

The Shoe That Thinks
by Dr. Joe Vitale
www.MrFire.com

«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»

I suffer from heel spurs. These are calcium
deposits on the bones that make running
painful. I created them years ago, when I
was an obese jogger. All that pounding on
the pavement with all that weight caused
the bones to make heel spurs.

Mine are large and painful. I went to the
doctor and she said they were the biggest
she had ever seen. I had to stop jogging.
I had to wear shoe inserts. It was no fun.

Because I have the core belief that
anything can be healed, I kept searching
for a cure. One day I saw an ad for a new
running shoe that seemed promising.

The shoe has a computer chip in it that
analyzes where you are running and adjusts
the shoe's heel to give you the best cushion.
I know this sounds sci-fi but I was desperate.
Plus I love cool gadgets. So I ordered a pair.

They arrived in a large box, protected
by foam inserts. There were batteries and
an instruction manual. I felt like I had ordered
an odd new laptop.

But the shoes.

Ah, the shoes.

They looked like they were designed for
Flash, the famous DC Comics character
who could zip around the world in seconds.

I put the shoes on, turned them on, and
grabbed the dog. We went for a run. I was
amazed at how easy and smooth it was to
jog again. I was running faster than the dog.
I felt like I could run forever.

I felt like The Flash.

But the real deciding factor would be the
next day. If there was going to be any pain,
I'd feel it in the morning. In the past, if I did
too much on my feet, I'd wake up with an
aching heel. And I'd limp all day.

Well, the next morning came and there
wasn't any pain at all. None.

In fact, I just moments ago went for yet
another run in my new shoes. I got the idea
to write this article for you while jogging
down the road.

Now notice something:

Are you curious about the shoes I bought?

Has this story made you interested in them?

Do you want to know the name of them?

When I was in a meeting the other day,
I told everyone about the magic shoes that
think. My excitement was contagious. I saw
people writing down the name of the shoes.
Even though I wasn't "selling" the shoes, they
wanted to know more and would probably
even go buy the shoes.

Are you feeling the same way?

If you've ever suffered from heel or knee
pain, you are probably reading this and
yelling "TELL ME THE NAME OF THE
SHOES, JOE!"

My point is this: A good story, told with
passion, that promises a benefit, will always
be hypnotic. It will always compel people to
want to know more.

In short, hypnotic marketing is nothing
more than sharing your sincere passion
with the people who most want to hear it.

I'll say that again:

In short, hypnotic marketing is nothing
more than sharing your sincere passion
with the people who most want to hear it.

And now for your relief:

The shoes are called Adidas 1.

Wear them and fly.

"Cookies Can Be Good For You"

===========================

If there is one word that prompts almost mass hysteria among PC
Newbies it is 'Cookies'. And it's caused because of lack of
knowledge of the subject.

Cookies are perhaps the most intensely debated internet marketing
tool today. Chances are you do not trust cookies and are wary of
them, or you’re not sure what they are.

Lou Montulli a former Netscape Communications employee developed
cookies. Netscape referred to this process as “State Management”
since they introduce a state to the stateless HTTP (Hyper Text
Transfer protocol). The name Cookie was derived from UNIX objects
called Magic Cookies. Yeah right!

Cookies are ID’s assigned to your browser by a server and stored
in a text file on your hard drive. Whenever you visit a web site
your browser requests the sites pages from the server where the
site is hosted. This server then assigns a unique ID to your
browser, which can be used to collect information and store for
later use.

Companies are now able to target users and segment them on the
basis of their browsing habits. Not only commercial firms find
this information very useful, but federal web sites are tracking
their users too. There are more than 60 federal sites currently
using cookies.

Your age, occupation, lifestyle, income level, marital status,
and buying preferences can be gathered using cookies. How this
information is used, depends on the individual companies
collecting the information. They can use cookies to better design
their products and services thereby reducing the gap between your
expectations and the value their product delivers.

HOWEVER, this information is NOT obtained by invading your
computer and rummaging around inside. That kind of piracy is
caused by spyware.

Cookies also allow customization of the site you are visiting.
Let's say you prefer a particular type of music or have a
specific interest that is recognized by the sites marketer. Your
next visit to the site can be customized playing that particular
music or maybe by showing you stories related to your interest.
Special discounts or custom buying options can be offered to you,
making your experience unique and more enjoyable at this site.

There is a huge debate as to whether cookies are an infringement
on your privacy. There are a lot of companies that have misused
this information collection tool. Hence, sometimes it appears
that cookies are an evil built into the internet. This is however
not the complete picture.

Cookies can definitely enhance your viewer experience and so they
must be allowed while browsing. However, certain caution may help
you ward off any unpleasant experience. You must pay attention as
to how the information you convey will be used by the site.
