Search Engine Ranking Equals Website Success

Don't avoid the significance of search engine ranking. It is
a concept you need to learn as much about as you can. Your
website deserves the best. Give it such.

Highly used search engines include Google, MSN and Yahoo.
Approximately eight-five percent of web searchers use these
to find what they are looking for.
Search engine optimization is defined as how high up on a
page a website shows. The higher it is, the more exposure
(and visits) it is likely to receive.

You do not have to be highly technical to increase your
ranking with search engines. All it takes is a little
knowledge and a certain amount of common "computer" sense.
Begin with your homepage and work from there.

Start by taking a look at the title bar (the colored bar at
the top of the page) that is located on your homepage. Make
sure the name of your business (and/or your business slogan)
is a part of the title bar.

What about the title bars on all your other pages? Keywords
need to be displayed here too. Take the keywords you use
directly from the text of your website. Keep it to a six-
word limit however, or even less if possible.

Website content is another consideration. Content is a great
deal more important than fancy pictures or graphics. And
content means text. Text needs keywords to be effective so
choose your keyword very carefully! There is no room for
sloppiness after all!

Text is what customers/searchers use on search engines to
find particular sites. Make your text more valuable than
your graphics and people will flock to see what you are
selling. This is an important lesson to learn.

High ranking on search engines comes down to a simplistic
format. Use a minimum of words, say around 250 and no more,
or an even better idea is to keep it to around 100.

Now we must look at meta tags. Contrary to popular
"Internet" belief, meta tags are not the end all and be all
of search engine rankings.

Look into the code of your webpage in order to determine if
meta tags are in use. Here is how you can easily make this
determination- once you bring up the code on the screen,
meta tags will make themselves known somewhere in the
vicinity of the top of the open windows. Meta tags aren't
really bad to have and some search engines still use them so
whether you want to or not is really your own personal
choice.

Link popularity plays a significant part in search engine
ranking as well. Never downplay its importance as the
quality of the sites you have linked to (or wish to link to)
is of utmost importance to your continued success.

The popularity of links is undeniable. Search engines will
yield what links are popular. And popularity is so essential
to your website's success! You can do a search as well to
find out who has chosen to link to your site. Just put in
the words "free link popularity check" and a number of site
addresses will be displayed. Choose whichever one you wish
and then assess your popularity.

You don't need an expert in search engine optimization to
help increase your ranking. Just employ these easy to use
steps and make it happen for yourself.

Desktop Shortcuts to Your Favorite Websites

What a pain in the butt! You go surf to a cool site, and
actually find something of value. As you get ready to spend
some quality time reading, the phone rings. Or the kids bust
something, the dog tears a hole in your new curtains, or your
computer decides to turn a deaf, dumb and blind eye toward
you and take a vacation.

Now what!!

Stuff happens. And even when everything is going smoothly,
you may find there's a particular site you visit ALL the time
and would like to be able to head on over with a click on your
desktop icons. No problem.

With a web page open, you'll see the address bar has a URL in
it. If you're using Explorer, just click on the "e" you see,
hold the mouse button down (the left one) and drag the
address onto the desktop. Of course you'll have to make sure
you can see the desktop behind the browser, at least enough
to make the drop.

To do that, reduce the size of the open page with the middle icon
of the 3 in the top right of your toolbar - next to the X

When you do this, an Internet Explorer icon is created with
the title of the page you've been visiting. Now that's just so
convenient! Next time you want to visit your favorite and
frequently favored page, just double click that icon.

If you're a Netscape fan, drag and drop the Location icon next
to the URL onto the desktop for the same effect.

Need more organization? Just make a folder for your favorites
and organize that way.

Okay, Smartypants, I hear you thinking. "Why don't you just
use the Favorites item that's on the Start Menu? The last
bunches of pages you visited are always in there."

Well, that's fine. And you can. But if you visit a few sites
ALL the time, the desktop is still the best place. It's visual,
easy to see, and a big reminder that's always "in your face."

Incidentally, you can drag the 'e' to your bottom task bar if you
prefer.
