Spam Filters - Good or Bad

One of the first things you will learn about when you join
the Internet, Spam. You will see that in every program you join,
No Spam Policy. There are anti-spam groups all over the Internet.
Congress had defined Spam as an e-mail ad that does not offer
a method of removal of a valid return e-mail address,
however most ISPs have redefined it to pamper the anti-spam groups.
They have defined it as if I don't know you and I send you
an e-mail I am spaming you. I have had spam complaints over
an auto responder. Guess what happened when they e-mailed
the complaint to the e-mail address that they
e-mailed to get the autoresponce. You got it.
As I see it the anti-spam thing is getting out of hand.
Recently we have been introduced to a new attack from
the anti-spam groups. It's called spam filters and many ISPs
are installing them on all accounts even it the customer
doesn't want it. Is this a good thing? Let me answer
that question with a question. Say I am your mail carrier
and I decide if your mail is important or not.
I take all your junk mail and throw it away
and only deliver what I think is important to you.
Then one day you get a letter from Publishers Clearing House
to inform you that you have won $10,000,000.00 (that's ten million)
but I look at it and think that they are only trying
to sell you magazines so I throw it away. Now you could have had
Ten Million Dollars but you don't because I thought the mail wasn't
important. How would you feel about me now? Does this answer
that question? I am running an ISP and I would never filter
my customers' e-mail. I would never let any one decide
what is important to me and nether should you.
You see, the problem with spam filters is they detect
certain parts of the message header that look for bulk e-mailers
like spamers use.
The problem is, most e-zines, safe list, and newsletters
use the same systems. The fact is, that is what these
systems were designed for. There are other variables
that they look for. I recently had a spam filter block my e-mail, not
because I had been reported of spamming, nor had any one
using my e-mail address or ISP but because there was
a CGI script running on my server that
they didn't like. This has cost me money because I was sending time
sensitive information to an associate. I am still talking with
my lawyer about how much loss to sue them for.
What you should do if you suspect your ISP is filtering your e-mail?
The first thing to do is call or e-mail them and ask.
If they are they will most likely tell you because they are proud of
the fact that they are censoring your mail and I don't know
any other way to put it. If they say yes, tell them to
"stop censoring your mail" (use these exact words) because
you want decide what is and isn't important to you. If they cannot turn
off
the spam filters its time to get a new ISP.
Most business people have been very cooperative with these anti-spam
babies
but now they have gone too far. Now they are telling me that not only do
they do not want to get spam they are now trying to stop me from getting
it.
As I see it we have a much bigger problem on the Internet than spam.
It's
those annoying pop up ads that everyone is using. I don't mind just one
but
I have had sites throw 6 or 7 at me and lock up my computer. Here is a
hint.
If you crash my computer I will not be coming back to your site.
I am now using software that stops pop ups and I am also a reseller for
it.

"Wallpaper Your PC - Without The Glue"

Let's change the wallpaper on your computer. It's drab and
needs an update. And let's use a photograph instead of a
graphic. Okay, use a graphic if you want. But we'll explain
how to snag a photo off the web and use it.
Go to a site that has some great photos. Just type "Free
Images" into your favorite Search Engine. When you get
there, find a Copyright-free photo that appeals to you.
Now, right click the image you want to use. From the popup
menu, select 'Set as Wallpaper' and click. The image will
replace whatever is on your desktop, and be centered. I don't
mean your icons will be replaced, but that any current
wallpaper you have will be replaced.
Now, what if you want to tile this picture? That is, use it
like tiles to cover your desktop? Here's how.
1. Right click your desktop.
2. Click properties. (Remember, if we don't say to RIGHT
click, we mean LEFT click.)
3. The Display Properties window appears. The Background tab
should be automatically selected. If it's not, click it once.
4. In the Wallpaper box, you'll see "Internet Explorer
Wallpaper" sleeted. There's a drop down box titled 'Display'
to the right.
5. Click the drop down box, and choose 'Tile'.
6. Click OK.
The photo will be tiled, covering your entire screen, instead
of being centered. If you want to experiment with something,
try selecting the 'Stretch' option.
To reverse yourself, just go back through the steps above,
and select different wallpaper. If you want a VISUAL tutorial

And by the way, every image you view on the Web is stored
on your computer automatically. They're all hiding in your
cache... which you can see if you have an image viewer like
ACDSee. Your cached images are in the following location:
C:\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content if you're
using Internet Explorer. ACDSee is available from their
web site: <http://acdsystems.com>
If you browse your hard drive with ACDSee, you'll see
exactly what's been viewed on your PC. Maybe you don't
want to know.
