If you feel that your small business is constantly stuck in the
shadows of large enterprise then niche marketing may just be the
answer. Competing against deep pockets with a modest budget can
get discouraging but niche marketing enables you to create a
strong business presence that can out perform even the big guys.
While some believe that marketing to a small focused group limits
your sales, most niche marketers are finding that developing a
narrow focus creates a loyal clientele and more importantly
repeat business.
So instead of marketing to everyone look at your prospective
buying audience and define it to a smaller group of people. For
instance, instead of selling books to everyone, define your
market to cooks and then sell cookbooks. This pulls your business
out of the shadows of the large conglomerates like Amazon Books
or Barnes and Nobles and creates a defined expert business for
which hobby cooks can relate. In this situation it would give the
cook looking for the "next best cookbook", the knowledge that
you
are taking the time to find the best for her or him.
Your bookstore is not just a maze of books for which the buyers
must sift through endless volumes to locate what she would like
to purchase. As a niche business you would constantly be on the
look out of the next best cookbook and make that information
readily available to your buyers. In contrast, the large
bookstore would simply point you to the correct aisle and leave
you to find it on your own.
WHY NICHE MARKETING?
People naturally gravitate to groups that reflect their own
interests. It feels friendlier and we naturally assume these
people understand us better. This is the philosophy behind niche
marketing. You are making a narrowly defined audience more
comfortable with you and your business than the large, impersonal
corporation. In effect you are building friendships out of
clients rather than assigning numbers to your clients. In most
situations buyers relate to this type of customer service and
attention. In your environment, the customer belongs, fits in
and will be welcomed.
In a society where we can now do everything at the grocery store
short of buying a new car, customers are welcoming the return of
personalized service and attention. Niche marketing provides
this.

"What's An Active Window?"
=============================================
Your computer was created by super geeks who didn't really
give a lot of thought to your not being impressed by their
techno-savvy. They were out to impress their colleagues, and
have done a great job of it. But where does that leave you?
Most non-geek people aren't impressed with Windows' ability
to multi-task. That is, its ability to do more than one thing at
a time.
In fact, doing one thing at a time is enough. At least for me
anyway!
That said, I think you should know about one feature of
Windows that might make life easier for you. And that just
happens to be what's known as "multi-tasking." And of course,
this includes the concept of the "active window."
Boring, (yawnnnn) who cares, why do I have to read this
anyway?
Well, you don't. But in case you decide to, here's the rest of
the story...
When you open a program, such as AOL or a word processor,
that program is "active." Anything you do with your mouse
or keyboard will be aimed at that program. Now, let's say
you open another program WITHOUT closing the previous one.
You now have TWO programs running. TWO windows to deal
with. Any more than that, and it gets a bit draughty around
the nether regions of your keyboard:-)
So how do you know which one is active?
The window that looks bright, colorful, non-gray or non-dull
is the one that's active. And it's usually the one that's on top,
too. (The active window always wants to be on top.)
The inactive window may be on the taskbar, too. If you
minimize a window, it heads straight for the task bar, and
turns itself into a button. You can then sew that button on
your shirt, and say you've been "computerized."
All humor aside, the taskbar is the place to look for windows
that have been minimized. And that leaves only the active
window on your screen. So, next time you think you're lost,
just look at the taskbar.
Are there any buttons showing? If so, click one. (They open
with a single click.) And if you haven't minimized a window (do
this by clicking on the "minus" button in the upper right hand
corner of any open window) it'll be right there "in your
face."
One at a time, two at a time, three at a time or more. You can
have open as many windows as your computer has memory
for. They just keep opening. So no matter how many windows
are open, you'll know which one is the one that you're really
working with.

We hope you have enjoyed this issue of the
Online Exchange E-zine.
A warm welcome to all of our New Subscribers.
Got an email from my ISP the other day. They
just activated a mailguard into their system,
which will filter out all spam. Though this
can be very handy, I was a bit shocked that
the filter is automatically on and I have to
go in and turn it off. I have not actually done
that yet. And there is a reason for it. I can
go to my webmail, and check my mailguard folder
and read all my filtered mail! I do that twice
a day. Mainly because I want to make sure that
only SPAM is getting filtered and not important
mail.
Many ISP's are now doing this. They activate
your spam filter automatically, and you have
to go in and turn it off yourself. Many
ISP's don't even notify you that you have one
on. I was lucky.
I am not a fan of spam filters. However, the
tools available through my ISP do make it easier.
I can at least go in and check my spam to see if
anything is slipping in there that should not be there.
Many filters do not have that option. You can lose
alot of important email by having a spam filter on.
So you need to be very cautious. It does make my
life easier not having to go through this garbage in
my email box, but I can't get away from it, because
now I go to my webmail to check it.
I was very happy to see that my own ezine and mailings
were not getting filtered. Many ezines do get filtered.
I saw a few in there, but I never wanted them anyway. lol
Not getting mail you think you should be getting?
Check with your ISP today and make sure your email
is NOT being filtered.
