"Anthrax By AirMail!"

People and businesses have flocked to the Internet
for numerous reasons. One of them being the speed
at which we can send and receive information.
Businesses like it due to the cost effectiveness,
of reaching targeted customers very quickly,
unlike the conventional mail system which can
be very expensive for the direct marketer.

One of negatives of the Internet continues to be
viruses which can cause havoc with computers.
Now we have to deal with a more frightening virus
in the offline world, arriving to us at our very
homes and offices via the same conventional mail
system, which cause marketers to prefer the
Internet!

Anthrax is arriving to us by airmail!

Yikes! Now any white powdery substance is
automatically causing folks to dial 911 in panic.

DO NOT PANIC.

"Knowledge Is Power." The media is doing a great
job of getting the word out about anthrax, its
history, appearance, and symptoms that a victim
may show.

They are also publicizing what folks need to do,
step by step, upon finding something suspicious
about their mail. Here's an example:

***SUSPICIOUS UNOPENED LETTER OR PACKAGE, WITH/WITHOUT
THE THREATENING MESSAGE SUCH AS "ANTHRAX":
(Or any other disease)

Do not shake or empty the contents of any suspicious
envelope or package.

PLACE the envelope or package in a plastic bag or some
other type of container to prevent leakage of contents.

If you do not have any container, then COVER the
envelope or package with anything (e.g., clothing,
paper, trash can, etc.) and do not remove this
cover.

Then LEAVE the room and CLOSE the door, or section
off the area to prevent others from entering (i.e.,
keep others away).

WASH your hands with soap and water to prevent
spreading any powder (germs) to your face.

What to do next*..

If you are at HOME, then report the incident to
local police.

If you are at WORK, then report the incident to
local police, and notify security officials,
and the Administrator Of the Day (AOD).

Do not show other co-workers the content if you
receive it, because then you will be expanding
the number of people exposed to the contents.

The AOD will contact the Infection Control
Coordinator and Administration.

LIST all people who were in the room or area
when this suspicious letter or package was recognized.

Give this list to the Infection Control Coordinator
for distribution to both the local public health
authorities and law enforcement officials for
follow-up investigations and advice.

Three contractors were visiting a tourist attraction
on the same day. One was from New York, another from Texas,
and the third from Florida. At the end of the tour,
the guard asked them what they did for a living.
When they all replied that they were contractors the guard said,
"Hey, we need one of the rear fences redone.
Why don't you guys take a look at it and give me a bid?"
So to the back fence they all went.

First to step up was the Florida contractor.
He took out his tape measure and pencil, did some measuring
and said, "Well I figure the job will run about $900.
$400 for materials, $400 for my crew, and $100 profit for me."

Next was the Texas contractor. He also took out his tape measure
and pencil, did some quick figuring and said,
"Looks like I can do this job for $700. $300 for materials,
$300 for my crew, and $100 profit for me."

Without so much as moving, the New York contractor said,"$2,700."

The guard, incredulous, looked at him and said,
"You didn't even measure like the other guys!
How did you come up with such a high figure?"

"Easy," he said. "$1,000 for me, $1,000 for you,
and we hire the guy from Texas."

TIP #1

Create a 'My Computer' toolbar for your desktop!
If you have Windows 98, this is great tip for
quick access to all the stuff found when double clicking My Computer.

Just drag the My Computer icon to the left of your screen
and drop it. That's right, drag it as far left as you can,
until it's about out of sight... and release the mouse button.
The Toolbar will be created down the left side of your monitor.
To remove the My Computer Toolbar, RIGHT click and select
'Toolbars' and uncheck 'My Computer'. This gives you
one-click access to your disk drives, CD drives, printers,
the Control Panel, Dial Up Networking, and more depending
on your system configuration.

TIP #2:

Is your cursor doing the herky-jerky across the screen?
It could be a simple matter of cleaning the mouse ball!
If you have a mechanical mouse (as opposed to a new optical mouse)
then remove the ball, and clean the rollers inside.
Just scrape the crud off them with a bent paperclip
or a slim pocket knife. Turn the mouse over,
and rotate the cover plate in the direction of the arrows.
The mouse ball will fall out. Nothing else will fall out.
Once clean, put the ball back in, tighten the cover,
and your cursor will start acting like it's supposed to!
