Sales letters are one of the most popular forms
of advertising today, and rightly so.
The reason for this is simple: they work.
However, even the most powerful sales letter
can't do its job if you don't get it to the right people.

So, how do you make sure your sales message gets
across to those who will listen?
The answer lies in one simple word: EMAIL.
Email is the fastest, most direct, and most
cost-effective way to spread the word.
In fact, it's the number one marketing method in use today.

If you have already established an email newsletter,
use your existing list to send out a sales letter.
Since these people have already signed up to
receive your messages, they're likely not to mind
much if you send them a sales pitch; just try not
to make it too hypey or pushy.
Thank them for joining your list, then tell them
what you can do, as a service for them.

If you're nervous about turning your prospects off
with a sales letter, simply begin each newsletter issue
with a brief ad for your services. Provide a link back
to your site, perhaps to a page that does contain
a strong sales letter.

If you don't already have a newsletter going out,
you need to start one. Let visitors to your site
sign up simply, by providing their email address.
Let them know you'll give them weekly insider tips,
useful articles, and money-saving offers.
And ALWAYS, ALWAYS provide, at the end of your newsletter,
specific instructions for how your subscribers
can remove themselves from your list.
Although you don't really want people to unsubscribe,
not providing these instructions can really frustrate
people and damage your reputation.

If you don't think it's possible to start your own newsletter,
try buying or renting a targeted list of prospects from
an outside source. A simple Internet search will no-doubt
help you find dozens of companies who specialize in these lists.

In short, email is an incredible marketing tool that can
make the difference between success and failure...
if you do it right. A well-written, well-targeted sales letter
or ad can indeed do wonders for your bottom line.

SQL

Abbreviation of structured query language,
and pronounced either see-kwell or as separate letters.
SQL is a standardized query language for requesting
information from a database. The original version
called SEQUEL (structured English query language)
was designed by an IBM research center in 1974 and 1975.
SQL was first introduced as a commercial database system
in 1979 by Oracle Corporation.

Historically, SQL has been the favorite query language
for database management systems running on minicomputers
and mainframes. Increasingly, however, SQL is being
supported by PC database systems because it supports
distributed databases (databases that are spread out
over several computer systems). This enables several
users on a local- area network to access the same
database simultaneously.

Although there are different dialects of SQL,
it is nevertheless the closest thing to a standard
query language that currently exists. In 1986,
ANSI approved a rudimentary version of SQL as the
official standard, but most versions of SQL since
then have included many extensions to the ANSI standard.
In 1991, ANSI updated the standard. The new standard is
known as SAG SQL.

One common place you will see SQL is as MySQL,
which is the most common database program that web hosts
provide for their customers.

This is a report from the daily news. It is worth reading.

And now for a spam laugh:

I have been getting this piece of spam the last few
days that literally has me rolling over laughing.

On the very very top of the email is in big bold letters;
SPAM DISCLAIMER AT BOTTOM.
Than it proceeds to let me know that the reason
I am reading this piece of spam is because I posted
at his FFA site. I NEVER post to FFA sites, and I am
totally against FFA sites. So, obviously this is blatant spam,
and this person is so naive that he/she actually may think
that as long as they have one of these so called disclaimers
for SPAM at the bottom that it is OK to send the spam.
Well, if it isn't SPAM, then why does anyone need a SPAM Disclaimer?
This is the funniest thing I ever saw. This must be a newbie
to be so naive to think anyone would actually consider his offer.

And the PUNCHER is...
Last night I originally received this spam in my email box
with the spam disclaimer and all. Then this morning I get
another one from this person, and after the spam disclaimer note,
the email is opened:
"I got to tell you something. I just don't understand why
isn't everybody joining Ahmoola."

I just HAD to email this person and let them know
that the reason no one is joining is because they are
spamming people. And you don't make money by spamming people.

This whole situation was just too funny. I couldn't get mad
if I tried. It made my day to see that this person thinks
spamming is OK as long as you add a spam disclaimer.

I know our Humor section is not until Friday,
but this one was just too much of a hoot NOT to share.

An Important reminder for you. It is now the
end of September. If you think it is too
soon to start thinking about advertising for
the holidays, then you better think again. NOW is
the time to reserve your dates. We have officially
launched our BIG HOLIDAY ADVERTISING SPECIALS.
These specials start your advertising in
the beginning of October and run until the holidays.

We had these specials last year, and we had to close
them off by mid-October due to an over abundance of
reserved advertising. This is because most people
who have been in the marketing business for some time
realize that NOW is the time to start advertising. People

are already shopping around. So don't let your business
get left behind. Keep an eye out for the specials
on Friday. They are all discounted specials in order to
help you get a handle on your holiday advertising.
