The Unappreciated Entrepreneur
by Debbie Solomon

This tale of woe will really hit home with all the work at home parents.  I got a call the other night from a close friend. The poor girl. She has 2 children, and works 5 to 6 days a week. Leaves the house at 7:45am, and does not return until 7pm at night. Does this sound familiar to you?

I used to be like that. The guilt of not seeing my children grow up, really got to me. That is why I am now a work-at-home mom. However, when my friend called, she made a comment that is all too familiar, and in all honesty, a real insult. She said to me, "I don't know which is worse, working all the time or being a stay-at-home mom." First of all, I may be a stay-at-home mom, but I also run my OWN BUSINESS! People just don't seem to see that point. I am up a 6am ever single morning, before either of my kids get up, just to get a head start on the computer. And this computer does not go off until 10pm at night.

Now, whose day is longer, huh?

My friends and family all think the same thing. All because I am home with my kids, don't ever think I don't earn an income. A Home Business is harder work then anyone can imagine. It takes so much dedication, complete determination, and NO CHANCE of ever giving up if I want to succeed and earn a living. It is my livelihood. And guess what...I DON'T GET SICK DAYS EITHER!

There is nothing more satisfying than running a successful home business. It is something that is built from scratch. It is something that WE create, and it is something WE can all be proud of. We don't have tons of overhead. Taxes are NOT eating us up. In fact, we get to claim part of our house, electric bill, phone bill and water in our taxes. Boy, the advantages we get when working at home.

A home business entrepreneur is one of the most respected professions. However, the 9 to 5er's just DON'T GET IT! I think the concept of Suzy HomeMaker actually making a living and supporting her family with an internet business is simply inconceivable.

Guess what! We are succeeding. There are many successful online businesses. I am one of them. Am I making hundreds of thousands of dollars a month? No. Am I paying the bills and putting food on the table? YES. I actually write a paycheck every single week from my business account. This way, when my dear family and friends come by and tell me I should get a real job, I will just show them the stack of cancelled checks, and prove to them that I TOO bring home a paycheck. I just don't have to leave the house to do it.

And here is another thing to point out to all our friends when they see these paychecks. I will tell them to add $200 on each and every paycheck that I write, for THAT is the money I save every week on DayCare, gas, and other 9 to 5er expenses.

All because we work at home, it does not mean we do not work. I think these people who are in denial about a person succeeding in a home business, is due to jealousy. Gosh, wouldn't they just love to stay at home and work? YOU BETCHA!

So, are we the unappreciated entrepreneurs? NO way! Most people can only dream about what we do. We are DOING IT! And the outcome of it all? We get to know our children, and watch them grow up. So, if your family and friends don't appreciate your hard work-at- home occupation? Don't worry, YOU KIDS APPRECIATE IT!
